Navigating Secondary School Choice

As your child approaches the end of primary, the transition to secondary school can feel daunting. The application deadline is fast approaching and you want to make the best choice you can for your child. You know how formative secondary school can be and how important it is to secure good grades at age 16.

However, you feel baffled by the changes which have taken place in the last ten years – what are Free Schools? What is a Multi-Academy Trust? – and it is difficult to find out the information you need. How much should Ofsted, League Tables and open evenings inform your choice? No wonder it is often easier to ‘let go’ and follow the crowd.

If you want to take control and get informed, I am running a three part course to help you.

Session One: In this session we will begin by looking at your own values – what type of education do you want for your child? We will also cover the ‘basics’ by looking at all of the different types of school available and the pros and cons of each.

Session Two: In this session we will explore Ofsted, League Tables and how to use the information publicly available. We will explore where to find information, the story behind the data used and consider ways to use it effectively.

Session Three: We will look at how to approach school open evenings – using these events to get vital sources of information. We will explore how to ask the right questions to the right people, understanding how close a particular school matches your own educational values.

The dates for the sessions are below:

Session one: 20th April, 7:30-8:30pm

Session two: 27th April, 7:30-8:30pm

Session three: 4th May, 7:30-8:30

To ensure I can offer the best support, I am limiting the number of places on this course to ten groups. If you sign-up before Friday March 31st the course cost is £125 per family. After this date, the price is £150 per family. The cost of the course is reinvested to ensure the continuation of this project – helping parents to navigate the school system. If, after completing the course, you are unhappy, you will be provided with a full refund.
